Announced earlier this year at the Geneva show, the Porsche 918 Spyder Concept could be one of the most beautiful things to ever exist. This 918 has a 3.4-liter V8 petrol burner combined with an electric motor. It puts out 500bhp and can go 0-60 in about 3.2 seconds. So what makes this car so great? Well….imagine those speeds and power while still maintaining an average of 78mpg. Although it’s important to note that pushing the car to those limits will not give you the 78mpg, you will have to drive it in a specific “mode”. Below are the four modes:
E-Drive Mode: This is an all-electric mode in which the gaudy fuel economy number is achieved.
Hybrid Mode: Power is modulated between the gas engine and electric motors in some thrifty but largely unexplained manner.
Sport Hybrid Mode: Produces more power, but with Torque Vectoring, and power biased toward the rear wheels.
Race Hybrid Mode: Uses full power with a short burst of E-Boost available.
Still impressive. To think you could have a eco-friendly supercar.
